Stripping process: Items are dipped in a warm caustic solution then the residue is removed by pressured jet washers. Then we offer the option to neutralise your item with acetic acid (sodium hydroxide is alkaline in nature so we recommend your item to be neutralised to a neutral PH level) and left to dry slowly and naturally by placing into a dehumidified room until it is completely dried.
In the sanding process the items will be sanded for smoother surface ready to apply the finish. We offer wax or oil finish in shades of customer’s choice.
In the waxing process a quality wax or oil is applied on the doors by hand which will bring out the natural beauty of the wood
Caustic paint removers typically sodium hydroxide (also known as caustic soda) works by breaking down the chemical bonds of the paint.
chemical stripping gives the best possible result, can be the most gentle on the wood
caustic stripping will remove most finishes, especially good on thick paint build up
Metals: strip really well especially fireplaces, gates and ornate items as the caustic liquid can reach everywhere, but note: caustic doesn’t remove rust.
Pine: strips great, such as doors, chest of drawers, cupboards, chairs, skirting boards and architraves, etc, but saying that, pitch pine ( the dark grainy pine found in churches ) can go furry and is a nightmare to sand off, if it does fur.
Beech: strips really well, beech is mainly used for chairs.
Oak, elm, walnut: strips well, but does go slightly darker than the wood in it’s natural state with a greyish tinge, but when sanded and stained dark, looks good.
Satinwood: normally very good.
Plywood and veneer: It’s not recommended but it’s down to you and the stripper to decide, it can be done but you have to keep an eye on it all the time as it will start to lift off.
Plastic: Strips very well.
Cautions
Water based products, acrylic and polyurethane products cannot be removed through the stripping process, but we offer hand strip service, for more information contact us
We cannot guarantee the removal of stains
Any glass left in doors or furniture is done so at customers own risk
Any door furniture is left on at customers own risk against loss or damage
